The voting challenge of Enel
Enel, one of the world’s leading energy companies, faced a critical challenge: organizing the renewal of its Union and Safety Representatives after several years since the last election. These representatives play a key role in safeguarding workers’ rights, serving as the body through which employees elect their representatives responsible for collective bargaining and promoting workplace safety. This electoral process is crucial to maintaining continuous dialogue between employees and management, ensuring that the workforce’s concerns are properly represented and addressed in corporate decision-making.
The strategic importance of Union Elections with online voting was amplified by the need to engage over 29,000 employees. The Unions Elections through digital voting aimed not only to refresh union representation but also to strengthen collective action among workers at a pivotal moment for the company. This was also ENELās first time adopting a digital voting system, making the management of the electoral process even more complex, and requiring cutting-edge solutions to ensure reliability, security, and transparency.
The solution
ENEL selected Eligo to manage the Union Elections with online voting, reassured by positive feedback from other clients and the proven reliability of Eligo’s online voting platform. The elections took place entirely online over a three-day period, with 24/7 access, allowing employees to vote for both individual candidates and their corresponding lists through a joint voting system. This system ensures consistency in voter preferences, automatically preventing any attempts to select candidates from different lists, thus ensuring the integrity of the vote.
The entire infrastructure for the digital voting process was built to ensure maximum security and transparency, complying with all applicable regulations, while offering an intuitive and user-friendly platform for every voter. With an automated procedure for loading voter information and creating ballots, Eligoās election managers were able to set up an event of this scale in just a few clicks, eliminating the administrative burden associated with traditional paper-based systems.
Results
Union Elections with online voting was a resounding success, with 83% participation, highlighting the importance Enel employees place on union representation, especially at a critical time for the energy sector. The process, involving over 29,000 voters and 169 ballots, was completed smoothly, validating Enel’s decision to adopt a secure and transparent digital voting solution.
These elections represent the largest Union Elections with online voting event ever managed by Eligo, marking a significant milestone for both the company and Enel, and demonstrating how digital voting solutions can successfully meet large-scale challenges.
